The portion of the sprinkler system aboveground is a network of specially sized or hydraulically designed piping installed in a building, structure, or area, generally overhead, and to which sprinklers are attached in a systematic pattern. The valve controlling each system riser is located in the system riser or its supply piping. Any time any component of your facility\u2019s fire sprinkler system is altered, repaired, reconditioned, or replaced, it should be tested according to the requirements listed in NFPA 25: Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems.<br>\n<br>\n<strong>Frequently Performed Maintenance<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nOn top of these larger scale fire sprinkler systems maintenance requirements, there are smaller yet equally important tasks to perform weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.\n<br><br>\n<strong>Freeze Detection<\/strong>\n<br><br>\nOnce a year, your system's antifreeze solution should be tested before temperatures fall below 4\u00b0C. Sprinkler lines should be inspected annually for freezing.\n<br><br>\n<strong>Internal Pipe Investigation<\/strong>\n<br><br>\nInternal pipe investigation is to make sure the pipes supplying the water to your facility\u2019s sprinkler heads contain no obstructions and no potential for obstructions. Per NFPA requirements, this investigation should take place every five years. The goal of this test is to check the pipes for foreign materials. If enough foreign matter is found to potentially clog the piping system or sprinkler nozzles, an obstruction investigation must be performed. The entire system should be flushed if obstructions are found during the investigation.
